Jennifer Ling Datchuk

Datchuk uses a mixture of fired and unfired porcelain in these two works, Married 2008 and Tie 2008. Slip casts fabric with porcelain slip which then is not fired. This keeps the details in the lace and the folds in the fabric. Her work focuses on her background as well as the emotive power of domestic objects which she mentions in her artist statement. (Link above)

Her use of porcelain looks at the representation of purity because of the colour of the clay once fired. The use of the knotted fabric covered in a porcelain slip works well with how she wants to unravel pressures on women to conform, but also tackles how we are viewed as the weaker sex.
